Bamboo Eradication in Surrey
Whether you’re a homeowner or looking after a business estate, bamboo can pose a huge problem, especially when left unchecked. Within a matter of days during peak growing season, bamboo can spread across boundary lines, causing more issues than you might expect.
That’s where we come in. At Japanese Knotweed Specialists, we have a broad range of experience in dealing with bamboo removal, removing the problem on your grounds.
As always, we start with identification. Knowing what we’re dealing with ensures we can effectively remove the bamboo down to the smallest fragment.
Our service covers it all, from the initial survey through to removal and aftercare. One company, one channel of communication, and one problem solved for you.
Our Bamboo Removal Services for Surrey Properties
As a screening plant, bamboo has been incredibly popular for many years. It’s now grown uncontrollably, and for many property owners in Surrey, it’s causing problems. Some may have also been mis-sold the wrong type of bamboo or planted it without knowing the problems it causes. Even moving into properties with bamboo growing can lead to wider issues.
Due to bamboo’s quick-growing nature, it adds privacy fast, but it also takes over your garden even faster. There are bamboo species that can grow over 35cm a day, meaning that within a few months, you could have metres of it on your land.
Our bamboo removal services include:
- Removal on sites from 1m2 to over 1000m2
- Both commercial and residential removal by accredited experts
- Surveys to fully scope out the work required
- Sifting and screening for rhizomes
- 5- or 10-year guarantees available
Our Bamboo Removal Process
1. Bamboo identification
With over 1,400 species of bamboo that we know of, identifying bamboo before removing is an absolute necessity. Bamboo plants can broadly be split into two species: clumping and running.
Running bamboo is often the one that causes more problems. Running bamboo refers to the root system, which for running, means that it spreads laterally. Running bamboo can “run” through pipework, foundations and even roads.
The other type is clumping bamboo. This is where the roots form a large ball. While not as tricky to remove as running bamboo, clumping bamboo can still be difficult to remove, purely due to the size and weight of the root ball.
Our team of trained and accredited RICS experts will visit the property in question and identify the genus and type of bamboo, as well as the spread and damage it has caused, producing a full survey.
How much does a bamboo survey cost in Surrey?
The cost of a bamboo survey in Surrey from Japanese Knotweed Specialists is £299 + VAT, which includes a report of findings.
Unlike other companies, we don’t just look at the bamboo and remove what we can see. We take the time to properly identify the issue and take great care to remove all the bamboo.
2. Management Plan Created
Before we remove bamboo, we always create a plan to ensure the safe and thorough removal of it.
As well as knowing what our process will be, this also gives you documentation if you come to sell your property. While it’s not a legal requirement to declare bamboo, it can provide potential buyers with peace of mind that you have correctly gone about removing an invasive species.
Especially with running bamboo, severe infestations can enter your foundations, pipes and neighbouring properties. As such, depending on what we find as we continue to work, there may be more disruption than anticipated.
3. Removing the Bamboo
Once a management plan has been created, we can begin to remove the bamboo. This can be a disruptive process, especially if you have running bamboo. We will always work considerately and look to reduce the disruption to your livelihoods where possible.
During the removal process, we will keep you updated on the progress of removal and share how we plan to move forward. At any point, please feel free to ask questions, and we’ll do our best to facilitate your requests.
How much does Bamboo Removal Cost in Surrey?
Bamboo removal starts from £1,000 plus VAT.
4. Guarantee in Place
Once we have completely removed the bamboo, we apply a guarantee to the affected land. We are able to offer a 5- or 10-year guarantee.
This guarantee means that if bamboo does grow back, we will remove it once again, and at no additional cost to you. As bamboo can grow back from the smallest root fragment, we recommend a guarantee to ensure peace of mind.
As standard, we recommend a 5-year guarantee, but a 10-year guarantee can be applied on request.
Why Do You Need to Remove Bamboo?
Bamboo needs removing because if planted incorrectly, it can spread beyond your boundaries. Most garden centres or plant suppliers will often incorrectly label their bamboo if they don’t know what the correct genus is. You may have a more invasive type of bamboo without even realising it! It’s always best to remove bamboo professionally before it becomes a boundary infringement or starts causing pipe problems.
Laws on Planting Bamboo
There are no specific laws on planting bamboo, and as it is not a listed species in the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it’s not illegal to plant it.
We always recommend planting it in a strong pot with a root barrier to prevent it from being able to spread.
